#9 Lawrence, KS
With the University of Kansas at its center, Lawrence has the fourth largest student concentration among the top 20 college towns. This mid-western college town has a distinctly New England flavor. From vibrant fall foliage to late 19th century buildings lining its downtown streets, the town harkens back to its origins as a haven for New England abolitionists. The University of Kansas has a reputation as a liberal bastion amid large conservative schools in nearby states. With nearly 30,000 students, the school is a towering presence.
