Join us in Nashville for an event with John Vile, Professor of Political Science and Dean of the University Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University.

Rooted in the principles of individual liberty, limited government, and free markets, the American founding continues to shape conversations about freedom and prosperity today.

Drawing from his book The Declaration of Independence: America’s First Founding Document in U.S. History and Culture, Dr. Vile will explore the origins and ideas behind the Declaration and assess how revolutionary it truly was. This discussion will place the document in its historical context while considering its lasting influence on the institutions and principles that support human flourishing.

About the Speaker

John R. Vile (B.A., William and Mary; Ph.D., University of Virginia) is a Professor of Political Science and Dean of the University Honors College at Middle Tennessee State University. He has authored and edited numerous books on: the U.S. Constitution and its amendments; the constitutional amending process; the Constitutional Convention of 1787; the Declaration of Independence and other famous documents; presidential speeches; religion and politics; The First Amendment; American symbols (the U.S. Flag; Liberty Bell; the National Anthem; and the Bald Eagle); great American lawyers and judges; essential Supreme Court decisions; and related topics. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, the recipient of MTSU’s Outstanding Career Achievement Award for 2010-2011  and the Congressman Neal Smith Award for his contributions to legal education, and was named the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar for 2020-2022.
